This course covers two things. First, it helps actors figure out the negative self-talk holding them back — thoughts like "I'm not talented enough" or "I'll never get cast" — and gives them tools to swap that for a more confident, self-kind mindset. Second, it teaches practical self-tape skills: how to give a performance that's bold, memorable, and emotionally real enough to actually stand out to casting directors.

Over seven weeks, actors learn to apply the twelve steps of the Ivana Chubbuck Technique, drawn from the revised edition of The Power of the Actor. The term focuses on the tools that do the heavy lifting: overall objective, scene objective, obstacles, substitution, inner objects, beats and actions, moment before, place, and doings. Not reciting lines or indicating an emotion, but finding what the character needs, what stands in the way of getting it, and how to actively pursue it through the scene.
